Friday: Wildcard Event

On July 6th it was time for the qualification to join the 45 invited riders at Red Bull Bomb the Line 2012 supported by Arnette. After a 90 minutes long battle it was clear which five rippers earned themselves a wildcard for the main event on Saturday: Robin Wulf (GER), Mack McKelton (GER), Georg Balkhamishvili (GER), Philipp Josephu (AUT) and Jason Choi (KOR)

Saturday: Main Event

50 skaters and three obstacles - everybody was stoked to see who will be crowned king of the world famous spot. After two impressive heats at the double set with hubba, the kicker and the ten stair set with a handrail the weather forced the skaters to take a break and wait for the sun to come back. After a couple of rainy hours the spot was dry again and it was time for two more heats and the finals.

All the guys were killing it but Shane O´Neill convinced the judges with a nollie nosegrind at the hubba, a perfect switchflip over the kicker and finally a nollie backside heelflip down the ten stairs. Mark Fröhlich came in second with a frontside noseslide – backside flip – backside 180 fakie nosegrind line (first try!) and Mark Zaprasny made the third place.

Check out the clip with some rad footage of the event. Enjoy!

Surfers From All Over SoCal Line Up For The Newport Stop Of Arnette’s Cash Pot Surf Series

The second stop Arnette’s 2012 Cash Pot Surf Series went down last weekend at Blackies in Newport Beach on Saturday. Just like the previous week’s event at Seaside Reef in San Diego, Blackies saw a field stacked with surfers from all over SoCal, paddling out for their share of the $3,000 prize money that was up for grabs.

Prize money in the Arnette Cash Pot Surf Series is given out to the winners of each heat, not just the guys in the finals, making the event more appealing to surfers whose breaks lie outside the local area. While crews from San Diego and Ventura County made the trek to the OC, the Newport locals, including Geoff Moysa, Daniel Shea and Victor Done, definitely held their own in the water.

Skateboard CLASH 2011 - results of the madness

This weekend Skatehalle Berlin became Europe's centre of skateboarding. At the end of the day Axel Cruysberghs from Belgium climbed the podium's top spot, taking home the biggest share of the 12.500 € price money. The remaining two spots went to Flip wonderboy Louie Lopez from California and Stuttgart's Lem Villemin. Renton Millar from Australia won the Vert Jam, followed by local Jürgen Horrwarth finishing second on his own ramp. Finland’s Jussi Korhonen got third.

Skateboarders from all over Europe showcased what is possible in the Skatehalle Berlin. Lem Villemin returned after last year's heavy knee injury and Louie Lopez pleased the crowd and judges with popping full cab flips. Axel Cruysberghs displaying that eventually he is not little anymore: impossible lipslides and backtail 270's up the rail should be proof enough.

The Death or Glory Bowljam presented by Zimtstern had already gone down late on Saturday. With sweat and adrenalin soaking the air and an electrified crowd densely packed on the decks. Young Curren Caples from Ventura, California stoked out everyone, putting Jürgen Horrwarth – once again – in a close second place, followed by Frenchman Julien Benoliel.

The Vert Jam turned into a big showdown between buddies Jürgen Horrwarth and Renton Millar. Both threw various 540's almost up to the roof, smacked madonnas and body jars on the coping, rambled grinds through the rugged pool coping corner and slid liptricks spanning almost all of the ramp. A photofinish so to say, with Renton's flip to five-o making the difference.

What else? Cash and Arnette shades for tricks!

Hammers upon hammers: Back to back flip frontblunt down the ledge by Eniz Fazilov and switch backside noseblunts by Pete Eldridge!! Any questions!? Check the first teaser to sneak a peek at the madness:

This year we were proud to sponsor one of the biggest and baddest snowboarding events in the USA, the RIDE Shakedown. The action was off the hook, but even better was the fact that our very own Johnny Lazz (of our National team) secured a third place finish amidst a stacked field of competition. Check out the video below, and for a full report head to Snowboarder Mag.

For the past decade the Ride Shakedown events have distinguished themselves amongst an overly crowded contest calendar by having the most innovative and rider friendly format on the competition circuit. By mandating that riders call their tricks before dropping and abstain from repeating moves the spectacle remains fresh and progressive with only the best riders reap the rewards.

On Friday March 18th, 2011 The Shakedown made its second appearance at The Summit-at-Snoqualmie, WA and in typical Northwest fashion it was damp. Yet the moist conditions didn’t deter the 40 riders in the invite only rail event from stepping up picking apart the two-feature setup. The lookers right of the course yielded a quad kink square bar while the left showcased a bloated round bar complete with a girthy donkey at the end. Two heats of 20 or so riders jammed nonstop for 45 minutes vying for a spot in the 8 man finals. Standouts like Dylan Alito, Garret Warnick, Seth Hill and Yale Cousino set down some of the best tricks of the night but they lacked the consistency and panache of the eventual finalists.

Arnette is proud to be an official sponsor of the RIDE Shakedown 2011

The RIDE Shakedown Returns for Round 2 at The Summit at Snoqualmie
Pros and Ams alike prepare for the international snowboarding competition that will earn them $35,000 cash purse

Seattle, January 24, 2011 – This March, thousands will flock to the Summit at Snoqualmie, WA, to experience the second annual edition of the RIDE Shakedown, an international snowboarding competition now held in Canada, the U.S. and Germany. Keeping with its unique jump-to-rail jam contest format, both amateur and professional athletes will take to the course in an effort to win their share of the $35,000 purse.

Now a part of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour at the 4star level, the jam-style event held in Canada, Germany and the USA is known for its impressive urban rail features and 50-foot jump only unveiled to the athletes the day of the competition. The RIDE Shakedown is the only major snowboarding event that features a big air jump followed by a rail set up, in addition to the popular “jam format” competition that allows riders to choose their judged run.

The RIDE Shakedown draws snowboard fans and athletes alike by way of entertainment and adrenaline. Currently celebrating its 10th season in Canada, the event has attracted upwards of 20,000 spectators annually. Patryck Bernier and Brendan O’Dowd, founders of DIZZLE Entertainment and organizers of the RIDE Shakedown, say it’s quite the show, “it combines the entertainment of a festival with the intensity of a core competition while keeping it laid-back for the athletes. It’s fun for everyone, the audience is involved every step of the way. There’s the sponsor village filled with activities, a pro autograph session, and of course a top-notch snowboarding show –all for free.”

This intensity stems from the opportunity for amateurs to prove themselves and compete against professionals. Sebastien Toutant got his start at the age of 13 by winning the RIDE Shakedown as an amateur. The world-renown rider and two-time winner of the RIDE Shakedown will be competing at the U.S. edition of the RIDE Shakedown alongside many fellow RIDE team riders. In fact, the roster already looks promising. Back for a second edition are international professionals Alex Cantin –hailing from Stoneham QC, and Waterville Valley, NH native Sam Hulbert. Not to be forgotten is Seattle local Austin Hironaka, 2010 RIDE Shakedown Rail Jam winner, returning to defend his title.

Interested amateurs can qualify either at the event or through the TransWorld SNOWboarding TransAm series, which serve as a qualification round for the RIDE Shakedown. The overall TransAm tour champion will earn an automatic qualification in the RIDE Shakedown finals at the Summit at Snoqualmie.

This past Saturday around forty kids and their parents showed up to the Jax Pier despite 40 degree morning temps, for the 2010 Arnette All Day Antics presented by Sunrise Surf Shop. Everyone was stoked to see some really fun 2-3 ft lines coming in with the high tide and it was game on. With everyone fired up on DNA Energy and DNA Shred Stix, kids were ripping. Each competitor went home with a bag of Arnette goodies, while the finalists each scored an extra bag with even more shwag including a brand new pair of Arnettes, and various prizes from Freestyle, Vestal, FCS and Sunrise.

The winners of each division, Travis Baranowski (Groms),Keenan Cunningham (Boys),Jake McGuire (Juniors), and Piper Austin (Girls), each took home their prizes inside a sick Arnette back pack. Thank you to everyone that participated and hung out despite the chilly weather. I'm pretty sure we all had a blast and a few laughs. Also a big thanks goes out to the sponsors who kicked in and the ESA/NFL district and the FSA for their contributions. We'll see you next year with a whole new exciting format so stay tuned...

Alrighty folks, it's finally here, the very last stop in the 2010 All Day Antics surf series is descending upon Jacksonville Beach, Florida, on Saturday, December 4th. Entry is free and we have divisions for the young ones, so bring them out and let them do their thing. Did we mention that every contestant will receive a sweet Arnette swag bag and for the second year in a row we have teamed up with Sunrise Surf shop? Last year we had 60 participants who were all shredding and the finalists walked home with new shades and much more. ASP judging criteria will be in effect, so bring out your groms for a fantastically rad day on the beach and at least if they're not participating then they will at least see some very good surfing!

We want to send out a huge congrats to Arnette family member and surfer extradonaire Aaron Cormican for winning this years annual King of the Peak contest at his home stomping grounds in Sebastian Inlet, Florida. We heard Gorkin dominated the first day but on the second day one of the Thompson brothers got on a role and Gorkin had to pull out some big air in his last heat to take the title. Anyway, we are truly psyched for Gorkin right now as he truly deserved this win and now he can go back to free surfing and enjoying himself as the king of the east coast. Below are a couple of photos and video, but for the complete event wrap up please visit our friends at Surfline.
