Friday: Wildcard Event

On July 6th it was time for the qualification to join the 45 invited riders at Red Bull Bomb the Line 2012 supported by Arnette. After a 90 minutes long battle it was clear which five rippers earned themselves a wildcard for the main event on Saturday: Robin Wulf (GER), Mack McKelton (GER), Georg Balkhamishvili (GER), Philipp Josephu (AUT) and Jason Choi (KOR)

Saturday: Main Event

50 skaters and three obstacles - everybody was stoked to see who will be crowned king of the world famous spot. After two impressive heats at the double set with hubba, the kicker and the ten stair set with a handrail the weather forced the skaters to take a break and wait for the sun to come back. After a couple of rainy hours the spot was dry again and it was time for two more heats and the finals.

All the guys were killing it but Shane O´Neill convinced the judges with a nollie nosegrind at the hubba, a perfect switchflip over the kicker and finally a nollie backside heelflip down the ten stairs. Mark Fröhlich came in second with a frontside noseslide – backside flip – backside 180 fakie nosegrind line (first try!) and Mark Zaprasny made the third place.

Next weekend, 24th - 25th February the young and the old, boys and girls, rookies and pros will come together for the Red Bull Jibmunks in Grindelwald First.
On 24th February, 13 - 18 year old snowboarders get the chance to learn from Pro Snowboarder Markus “Mä” Keller how to use a simple slope for some stylish jibbing. Mä is always having a lot of fun in every terrain and will teach the young guns some creative riding.
Saturday will see a relaxed jib contest with pros and legends like Iouri Podlatchikov, Gian Simmen or Tonton Holland. It’s all about big tricks on small jumps, style and about the most important thing: to have fun with friends.

Everybody is invited to the contest and to challenge the pros.
So if you’re having fun snowboarding too, get yourself registered for the Red Bull Jibmunks and/or the Red Bull Trick it with Mä until 20th February on www.redbull.ch

In the above video, Maddison details the various issues that plagued him throughout training, including a back injury and problems with Australian immigration. Ultimately, Maddison did break the world record in practice, jumping 392 feet, but during the live event, he came up just short of the 391-foot record, landing at 378 feet, 9 inches.

"I would have liked to have gone further, but I am just happy to have landed safely on the other side," Maddison said after the jump, and over the past few weeks, he's had enough time to reflect on the event from start to finish, and that means he's already thinking about another distance jump. According to Maddison, "It leave another opportunity for me to go out there and send it as far as I can."

The Red Bull Jibmunks is not a “normal” contest, taking place in an oversized slopestyle run or in a frightening Superpipe. It goes back to the basics of snowboarding, back to what makes a good snowboarder: “Ride what is there!” – little bumps, poles or whatever there is. Swiss Pro Snowboarder Markus Keller will be the host of the contest in Grindelwald. All in all 14 Pros have been invited, but there’s also a Rookie, Girls and Open category. So if you’re keen on a relaxed Jam-Session with cash prize money and goodies in every round, be there, enjoy a fun day in the mountains and ride with some living legends of snowboarding such as last year’s judge Jamie Lynn who will be around as well!
