Fred Patacchia finishes in the Semi's at Pipe

Pipeline is no easy wave to tame, especially when it's 6-8 foot, offshore and dredging barrels as it was this past week for the Volcom contest. It truly was a sight to behold, especially when our very own Fred Patacchia was out there scoring high 9's. Fred was having one hell of a run, and during his quarter final heat he pulled in deep behind the peak and got so barreled it was scary. If he wouldn't have made it out then he would've been severly hurt. But, Fred is Fred so he did...and boy did he ever do it in style. In fact, it was probably that heat that did him in. He exerted so much energy that when the semis rolled around he was probably running on fumes, and in all honesty, if the competition was based on one wave then he would have won, easily! But it wasn't, and although John Florence went on to win the comp Freddy sure did put on one hell of a show, and for that, we are thankful. Don't worry though, as you'll be seeing much more of Fred and his winning ways as the WCT kicks off in February.
