First Annual Cash Pot Surf Shop Invitational

The first annual Cash Pot Surf Shop Invitational went down this past weekend at 56th Street in Newport Beach in 3-5 foot glassy conditions. Five SoCal surf shops (Jack's, Surfside Sports, Surfride, E.T. and Katin.) battled it out for $2,5000 in cash, with $2,000 going to the winning shop and $500 to the surfer with the best barrel. Not only was money up for grabs, but so were bragging rights. Each team was made up exclusively of shop employees, not their team riders, so it was a true battle of shop credibility out in the water.

All the shops were ripping and could not believe how good the waves were for this event. Jack's narrowly took out Surfride by .06 and went home with the $2,000 dollar prize. Jacks employee, Jesse Stealmen, was the winner for the best barrel and went home with an extra $500 in his pocket.

The event was amazing, all the shops were stoked and we cannot wait til next year.

Check out the video highlights!

Pete Mussio wins the Cash Pot at Newport Beach

The 2nd stop of the Arnette Cash Pot Surf Series took place this past weekend at Prospect Street in Newport Beach with 80 contestants, some driving all the way from La Jolla, San Diego and Oxnard. The waves were small, but the sun was shining and the girls were on the beach in full force catching the action. Even though the waves were only 1-2 feet it did not stop the guys from flaring up and doing some massive hacks and innovative moves. Guys were pulling off some incredible tricks and Pete Mussio did not disappoint the crowd, with his superman and two slob airs on one wave. Newport’s own, Josh Hoyer, made it two finals in a row and skated home with a little extra cash in his pocket on Saturday. However, the big winner of the day was Pete Mussio who won the Pro-Am division and his first round heat and walked away with $550 in cash to show for it. Also, big props to local boy Colin Moran for winning the 16 and under division, his first round heat and the specialty heat, walking away with $300 in his pocket. The event was a banger and the next one will be even better!

On Saturday, February 19th, the inaugural 2011 Arnette Cash Pot Surf Series took place at Seaside Reef in San Diego. It felt like we were in Florida because the weather didn't know what it wanted to do... It would rain, then the wind would pick up, and then the wind would die down and the sun would come out. It was like that all day. Even though the weather was less than ideal, the surf was still super fun. It was about 2-3 feet all day and the guys were ripping since they all wanted to go home with money in their pocket.

This contest series is the first of its kind as contestants in the Pro-Am Division earned $50 for winning their first and second round heats, and competitors in the 16 & Under Division were awarded $25 for each heat win. During the quarter-finals Arnette offered up a pot of $100 for the best trick, and the winner was Brent Reilly with an insane 360 air reverse. All-in-all, the event was super fun and everyone who participated went home stoked. Huge congrats to Cory Arrambide for grinding through the tough conditions and taking home the grand prize of a cool $500. More Arnette Cash Pot Surf Series events will take place in the coming months on both coasts and in Hawaii, so keep checking in back here on our website for the full schedule and more details. Also, extended Facebook photo gallery will be coming in a couple of days, but on March 1 be sure to check all of the action in BLISS Mag.
