Competitive snowboarding is at an all-time gymnastic high. Amid these mandatory ballerina moves, it’s refreshing to see somebody try even harder to put style & personality into a risky environment.
This past weekend at the Breckenridge Dew Tour Big Air event, Sage Kotsenburg landed a perfect “backside 1080 double cork” while doing the extra difficult “Japan” grab. The judges made the easy decision and rewarded him with the silver medal! …actually a wooden trophy.

Sage will be competing in the upcoming Winter X-Games in Aspen, where he’s no stranger to their podium as well.

Sage Kotsenburg joins US Snowboarding Development Team

It’s official, Sage Kotsenburg is on the US Snowboarding development team. That doesn’t mean they have a spot to the Olympics, but Sage is so good, they are putting special focus on him to help him get the points needed to land on the roster.

Sage Kotsenburg Takes Silver at Winter X Games Slopestyle

Sage Kotsenburg had the slopestyle run of his life at Winter X-Games 2012, and it showed by the judges rewarding him with the SILVER MEDAL! He had a couple smooth & tech rail tricks, then the jump line was a switch backside double-cork 1080, to a cab double-cork 1260, then a stylish classic flat frontside 1080 melon, and finished with what the announcers called a backside double-cork 1260, but it was really a perfectly controlled flat back 12.

Sagepalooza at Mammoth

With an open schedule this Spring, Arnette team rider Sage Kotsenburg had the opportunity to invite some of his closest friends for a laid-back progression session off several custom built jumps at Mammoth. The goal was to have tons of fun, learn some new tricks and make a video out of the experience. Mission accomplished!

"This is something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm stoked we finally put it together. Big thanks to my sponsors and all the people at Mammoth especially our builder, TJ Dawoud," Sage stated. "There was really bad weather beforehand and TJ was up all night making sure we could hit the 80 footer. I'm pumped my friends were able to come out and had a good time because I don't get to ride with them as much as I would like to during the season!"

Saturday March 12, Whistler BC, Garfinkels – The roof was officially torn off the joint! The 3rd and final stop of the Arnette Brain Freeze Team Launch Party Tour with Del the Funky Homosapien was nothing less than a full on barn burner. Del’s official DJ, Zac Hendrix, made a special guest appearance and got the crowd open with an eclectic mix of funk and soul, while Bukue One got the crowd warmed up for Sir DZL him self – DEL the Funky Homosapien. With Zac and Bukue backing him up, Del rocked the crowd with classics like Mr. Dobalina, At the Helm, Wack MC’s, and more recent cuts like Get it Right Now off his free Funkman album. The antics didn’t stop there… This party also celebrated Devun’s birthday. With his crew in tow we rolled out the birthday cake just in time for Dustin Cravin to dive into it face first and give Devun a frosting-filled birthday tackle. Cake was flying, FUNK was flowing, Whistler came out in full force to support – Thank you, and see you next time.

Brain Freeze party tour hitting Whistler tomorrow!

Tomorrow night last stop of our official Brain Freeze party tour will be slamming into Garfinkels in Whistler, Canada.

As the official team launch party series, this three-stop tour celebrates the 2011 re-launch of Arnette’s goggle program and newly minted team of snow shredders including Devun Walsh, Zac Marben, Dustin Craven and Sage Kotsenburg.

All three stops will feature live performances by Del The Funky Homosapien and Bukue One, with Arnette Am, DJ Matty Mo, on the turntables. Devun, Zac, Dustin and Sage will be at select stops, and free gear and good times will be flowing for all partygoers.

Kotsenburg takes 3rd at the Oakley Artic Challenge

Every year around this time, the best Snowboarders meet in Oslo, Norway for the TTR 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge 2011. The event which is known for a progressive and riders driven slopestyle setup, invites only riders who have shown to have what it takes to be amongst the top TTR competitors. This year, the riders list includes names such as Seppe Smits, Torstein Horgmo, Mark McMorris, Ulrik Badertscher, Jamie Anderson, Kjersti Buaas, and our very own young-gun Sage Kotsenburg. Although Sage didn't win the event, as you can see from the video below it's only a matter of time, especially when you take into account the fact that he was one of the youngest riders ever to compete. We wanna send a huge Arnette shout out to Chas Guldemond who took home first, but remember Chas, our boy Sage is right behind you so you best be looking over your shoulder!

Brain Freeze party in Mammoth goes haywire!

On Feb 10, Hyde Lounge in Mammoth Village was the backdrop for the second stop of the Arnette Brain Freeze Snowboard Team Launch Party to celebrate our team of Devun Walsh, Sage Kotsenburg, Zac Marben and Dustin Craven. If we thought Del the Funky Homosapien set the bar high in Denver...well then Hyde Lounge took things to an entirely new level. The place was packed wall to wall with a huge group of fans lined up outside waiting to see Sir DZL rock his set. Members of the Arnette AM team came through in full force with Snow Team Ambassador Sticky Shaw leading the charge. Arnette rider DJ Matty Mo got the crowd ready with some classic hip hop bangers, followed by Bukue One and Del, with vinyl connoisseur DJ Zac Hendricks closing the show with a flurry of rare cuts. Like a true man of the people, Del stuck around after his set to chop it up with fans who wanted to share a few words or take a picture. If you were lucky you snagged some of the limited edition swag that got tossed throughout the night. Another amazing event, and thanks to everyone who came out to support Arnette and DEL. Stay tuned for details on our final stop at Garfinkels in Whistler Village on March 12th.

This party will go down after the last day of the WWSRA On-Snow mountain demo, when everybody is done shredding and ready to rage! Kotsenburg lands first double cork cab 1440 in competition

Cab 1440 double cork…wtf?!! Seriously, this shit is getting ridiculous! Sage Kotsenburg stomped this frankly ridiculous trick in Saturday’s Air & Style. It’s the first one ever landed in competition, and it knocked out X Games gold medallist (and Air & Style China champion) Seb Toots. Cool? Well, check it out and judge for yourself…

The first stop of the Brain Freeze launch party tour with the one and only DEL, Sir DZL, the FUNKMAN himself, set the bar high! Denver’s snowboard and hip-hop community came out in force to show support. Devun, Zac and Dustin were all present and kept Beandip busy with the bar tab. DJ Matty Mo, Arnette rider and all around hustler, got the party started by spinning a mix of hip hop staples and party cuts to get the crowd warmed up. Up next was the best rapper+skater+graffiti-writer in the game, Mr. Bukue One, who kept the crowd hyped with his own special mix of hip-hop, comedy, and on-stage skateboarding antics. “Cheese and Butter” had the people chanting and set the stage for long-time Arnette fam member, Del the Funky Homosapien. I’ve been to a lot of hip hop shows (half of them Del shows, and not for Arnette!), and he ALWAYS brings the fire. He performed classics like Mr. Dobalina, Boo Boo Heads and At the Helm, and reminded newbees with a few verses from his work with the Gorillaz. He’s one of the best of all time – your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. I can’t wait for next week’s show in Mammoth.

Kotsenburg earns X-Games Big Air Bronze!

Arnette's Sage Kotsenburg earned Winter X Games bronze under the lights Friday in the big air contest in Aspen. And, although Norway's Torstein Horgmo won gold at only 17 years of age we know that Sage will be a threat for years to come.

From Denver to Aspen, the big air contest moved across Colorado with riders throwing it down at Winter X Games. Horgmo landed a triple cork to post the highest total score of 80, with second and third close behind. Canada's Sebastien Toutant scored a 79 to take silver with our Kostenburg earning a 77 to finish with bronze. To say that we're proud of Sage is a severe understatement, for him to step up like this and take home bronze only cements what we already know...that he one of the best up and comers out there. Right on Sage!

Ever wonder how this new crop of über-shred kids gets ready for the X Games? Well, Sage Kotsenburg is here to show you. Monster Energy bought an airbag and built its riders a private park in Park City, Utah so they could do some chucking and trick perfecting before the Big Show. That's the level that snowboarding is at these days -- so much for learning tricks on your buddies trampoline.

Arnette is proud to announce it has added an elite snowboard team in support of the 2011 re-launch of its snow goggle program.

Joining the family is the legendary Devun Walsh who will serve as Team Captain, along with young guns Zac Marben, Dustin Craven and Sage Kotsenburg rounding out the global squad.

“With the resurgence of our goggle program we hand-picked a team of four guys that truly embody what Arnette stands for, each in his own unique way,” says Arnette Global Brand Manager Joe Freitag. “Their attitude, style, originality and overall love for snowboarding bring them together to make one of the most influential teams out there. 2011 is going to be an epic year, and we’re very excited to have such an amazing group of guys representing Arnette on and off the hill.”

The “first four” are the backbone of Arnette’s revamped goggle program and epitomize what the brand stands for: heritage, creativity, progression, good times and balls-out shredding.

In the months ahead, keep an eye out for Devun, Zac, Dustin and Sage who will all be wearing Arnette’s new goggles – the Series 3 and Mercenary – as they tear it up this winter.

A few words from the team:

“I’m so stoked to have the opportunity to join such an influential brand, and it’s a true honor to be selected as Arnette’s snow team captain,” says Devun Walsh. “All the guys are super rad and the new goggles have such a great fit and clean look. The designers have done an awesome job putting a modern twist on a classic frame with the Series 3, and I’m psyched to wear goggles that work so well in all conditions.”

“I’m super excited to be on the Arnette team,” says Zac Marben. “We all have our own unique style, but totally respect one another’s riding abilities. The new goggles look and feel great, and people are stoked that Arnette is back on the mountain. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Arnette and the team.”

“Riding for Arnette is awesome because they were the first pair of goggles I ever owned,” says Dustin Craven. “Arnette has a lot of history in snowboarding and being part of the goggle program feels great. “When I first started snowboarding, Arnette was one of the dopest brands around and I would’ve done anything to get my hands on a pair,” says Sage Kotsenburg. “Now I ride for Arnette which is an awesome feeling. The goggles work really well and the team is super solid. Arnette has some big things coming up this year and I love being part of it.”

Arnette’s new 2011 goggles – the Series 3 and Mercenary – will debut at SIA (booth #1135) in Denver, CO, followed by ISPO (booth #A2.312) in Munich, Germany. Retail prices start at USD $65.00, and they will be sold at finer snowboard shops worldwide beginning Fall 2011.
